My mother is my inspiration : Vinesh Phogat

Became world’s number one female wrestler by defeating challenges with mother’s inspiration –  Vinesh Phogat

Charkhi Dadri. Vinesh Phogat, who learned the tricks of wrestling at the age of just five in Dronacharya Awardee and Tau Mahabir Phogat’s akhara, is equally strong not even on the mat but in ordinary life as well. Vinesh Phogat, who attained the status of the world’s number one female wrestler, had a life full of challenges right from the beginning. In childhood, when the shadow of father Rajpal Phogat rose from the head, then mother Premlata was suffering from cancer. Overcoming all the challenges, Vinesh has not only changed the attitude of girls towards the sport of wrestling, but has also set an example to achieve success through struggle. Vinesh Phogat is considered a strong contender for the medal in the selected team for the Tokyo Olympics.

Vinesh Phogat is a Commonwealth as well as Asian Games gold medalist female wrestler. He has been honored with the Government Arjuna Award and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. Vinesh started the 2016 Rio Olympics in her own style but unfortunately suffered a knee injury during the bout and was ruled out of the match. The medal hopes of the countrymen along with Vinesh were also shattered due to injury in the last Olympics. After that injury, the doctors even advised Vinesh to quit wrestling. The doctors said that if he returned to the mat, then the leg could also be damaged. Despite this, Vinesh did not give up and after ten months of hard work, not only did she come back on the mat, but also got gold medals in Commonwealth and Asian Games as per her fame.

This time not only the people of Balali but also the countrymen are expecting Vinesh to convert the drought of the last Olympics into a medal. Vinesh Phogat is the first Indian female wrestler to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. She will represent the country in the 53 kg weight category.
